Meet Phil

Thank you for visiting my site.  I am Phil Strunk, a young history teacher from Northern Virginia.  Originally from Philadelphia, I moved to Virginia after marrying the love of my life, Laura Beth.

I attended Messiah College and majored in history with a social studies teaching certification.  While at Messiah, I received the Clio Award which is given to the top history major at the school and also received the ETS recognition of excellence for the Praxis II examination.

I can honestly say that teaching is a dream come true for me.  Everyday is a new chance to change the world and bring hope to tomorrow.  Teaching middle school is a true blessing.  Students are in such a transformative stage of their lives, and it is an honor to be able to leave an impact on them every time we are together.

After spending a year at my current middle school, I began to become more actively engaged on twitter (@MrPStrunk) and started a podcast and eventually this blog.  The theme "Wins And Losses" is all about how we as educators celebrate our wins and use our losses to create future wins.  Our victories far outweigh any setbacks we face in our profession.

At the start of 2018, I began to host a Twitterchat, #waledchat, which meets every Thursday night at 9pm ET.  The central theme is reflecting on our craft and holds true to the ideas of Wins And Losses.

On June 11th, 2018.  I released the first episode of my Youtube series titled "Edusations."  The premise of Edusations is to create global conversations about education.

Thank you again for visiting my site, I look forward to learning with you!
